Each model is covered individually, Taylor's text matched by fresh photographic profiles of the car in question. Split into five sections - the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s - each era is prefaced with an introduction from a noted McLaren driver; Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Mika Häkkinen and Lewis Hamilton. For those with a passion for statistics, the books is rounded off by a series of appendices covering car specifications and McLaren's Formula One, CanAm, sports cars and Indianapolis race results. However, talking about this book simply doesn't do it justice; superbly designed and produced throughout, McLaren: The Cars 1964-2008 is an absolute pleasure to read. And, as a reference source, it would take some beating - we received our review copy just as we were finalising the story on this month's cover car - a McLaren M1A - and, with fresh light thrown on the subject by this book, were able to confirm several previously unknown facts about the car. Prepared with the full cooperation of the McLaren Group - Ron Dennis provides a foreword - and, of course, our very own Bruce McLaren Trust, this is one book that all Kiwi racing enthusiasts will want to own.
